Ailsa over at ‘Where’s my backpack?’ has a weekly travel theme, and I thought this week I’d give it a go, the theme being ‘Wild’. My pictures are from the north of New Zealand’s North Island. The climate up there is much warmer than down south, and it is also much flatter (by New Zealand standards). The north of the North Island (ie: everything north of Auckland) is roughly a third of the North Island, but one of the most sparsly populated areas of New Zealand (and sparesly populated bu New Zealand standards means pretty much completely empty!). Therefore, the north (like most of the country, to be honest) is quite wild, full of rolling hills, steep cliffs, sanddunes and sub-tropical forests.
These photos were all taken in Feburary 2012.
